Air Breathing Tunnel Ventilation |

Road Tunnel Ventilation It’s our business to get you through a tunnel in your car with your windows open just as if you were driving on the surface roads. By using Matter Propulsion Technology in air we facilitate the removal of 100% of toxic fumes in road tunnels and treat those fumes in an environmentally friendly way to give zero pollution. Air Breathing Tunnel Propulsion is achieved by moving all the polluted air the complete length of the tunnel to a point were it may be extracted for treatment or vented to the atmosphere if toxicity levels are low. This is accomplished using airflow rates as low as 1 Litre per minute. By placing the inlet inside the tunnel and the outlet vent some distance down the tunnel the effect is to create a very efficient one way flow of air that is drawn in at the entry portal. Compressed sufficiently in the Matter Propulsion Unit to give an air flow rate starting at 1 Litre per minute this is vented into the tunnel to affect all the cross section of the tunnel. Further the installation of the Matter Propulsion Unit is placed in a chamber in the tunnel and the vents are situated flush with the internal walls. This means that there are no structures inside the tunnel so tunnel cross sections may be reduced. This saves excavation and construction costs. A further advantage is that it can be placed anywhere in the tunnel, close to the entry portal in the centre or near the exit portal and will still work equally effectively Although the noxious fumes will be concentrated at the exit end of the tunnel the increased air flow reduces the concentration of gasses as clean air is sucked into the tunnel. However at some point the noxious fumes become so concentrated that all the air is removed using an adapted variation of Matter Propulsion and this is treated using an environmentally friendly process before being venting to the atmosphere. We can then continue the tunnel length by introducing fresh air to the next section of tunnel. We do this by passing all the removed air through water filtration units that absorb noxious fumes. This water is recycled until such time as it requires further treatment. The most important safety feature of our system is that in the event of a vehicle or truck catching fire in the tunnel all the vehicles downwind of the fire can exit safely and all the vehicles upwind of the fire can stop in clean air reverse or U turn and exit the way they drove in. Tests show that a single direction tunnel with four lanes 3.5m wide with a clear height of 6m that is 1.6 kilometres long can be totally vented in 26 minutes with a flow rate through the Matter Propulsion Unit of only 1 litre per minute. Naturally as air flow speeds are increased we are able to vent the entire tunnel in less time. As air is constantly ‘sucked’ into the tunnel another benefit is that the tunnel would stay cool, as the surrounding sub surface excavation will act like a ventilated cave. Cave systems around the world that are accessible to man stay at a constant temperature irrespective of the outside temperature. Naturally this same exhaust system can be used in all underground situations such as underground train stations that are serviced by rail tunnels. We expect motorists to be able to drive the full length of our tunnels with their windows open.
